Music Style:  Hard, melodic trance       First Toucan Track:  New Beginning (2003)      Real Names:  John

John produced trance under the JMD alias between 2003 and 2010. Combining melodic and tech trance sounds with a harder edge, the trademarks of the JMD sound are heavily phased synth pads and stabs and, more recently, rippling arpeggios and gated synths.

John worked on several JMD tracks in 2004, but during the year, the remixes gained a higher profile - with Time On Your Hands by Redmann, House Trancefusion by Risey both getting the JMD treatment. In 2005, the JMD sound started getting less commercial, becoming more minimal, pure synth driven trance. This was evident in JMD’s remake of Thirty One and new track Black Magic. This style continued into 2006, by which time JMD had added a more electro feel to the sound, seen on tracks such as Futuristic Sound. At the end of the year, a slightly slower, more tech-trance sound was used for JMD’s remixes of So Sublime and Another Boring Lunchtime, and in 2007 this sound was taken forward for JMD’s own productions Hold My Breath and Frontline.

In 2008, influenced by producers such as Armin Van Buuren, Above and Beyond, Marcel Woods and Tiesto, the JMD sound slowed down again slightly, and introduced a heavier bass driven feel to complement the melodic uplifting synth leads as evident in Polar. This style has continued into 2009 and 2010, with tracks such as Jetstream and JMD’s 2010 remix of On Target.

In 2011, John decided to retire the JMD name to focus on other projects. The last JMD outing was the 2011 remix of Redmann’s Force Of Nature, which was followed in 2012 by the release of Remix and Additional Production By JMD, a remastered compilation of 18 of JMD’s favourite remixes.

Latest JMD News

8th March 2015 Celebrate our 10th birthday with our latest release!

Ten years ago on 8th March 2005, we released an EP from trance producer JMD featuring two tracks, Thirty One and Formation. Although the Toucan Music website had been live since January 2004, and had been releasing music online since 1997 under the name Frantik Music, the release of Thirty One and Formation marked a significant moment. Before this two track EP was released, Toucan had promoted all its music on external websites, such as the now-defunct Vitaminic and free download portals. In 2005, Toucan Music became a netlabel and we began promoting music downloads directly on our own website, making our audio available under a Creative Commons licence for re-use. Ten years and a hundred and seven releases later, we’re still here! Having clocked up well over a million downloads, our netlabel has gone from strength to strength while continuing to promote a diverse range of electronic and dance styles. Grab our remixes of JMD on the release page here.

12th December 2014 Polar Interference

It’s December, the nights are closing in and there’s definitely a chill in the air – what better time to bring you a brand new mix of JMD’s trance track Polar?  Aerologic is on hand to provide another epic EDM remix, keeping the essence of the original with it’s uplifting melodic hook and adding some seriously dirty bass riffs, punchy EDM beats and a huge saw lead.  Hot on the heels of this remix is the one and only Blastculture, who has been busy in his studio reworking JMD’s collaboration with Kube, Interference.  Adding his customary intricate techy beats and glitch effects while retaining the original acidic bass and haunting melodic vocal clips, Blastculture once again delivers a deep house track to keep those late night floors alive.  Go and get ‘em here:!

19th December 2013 New remixes of Psychadelik Pedestrian tracks
