For Netlabel Day 2016 we are releasing two brand new three track EPs, available to download today. The Shot In The Dark EP features a trilogy of new electro house tunes from Beat Doctor, returning after a five year hiatus. Shot In The Dark leads the EP with a bouncy, uplifting bassline, rippling arpeggios and an echoing vocal snippet. Remote Control System has a similar echoing vocal sample but takes a more minimal approach with a relentless computerized bassline and bleepy sounds. Clockwatchers completes the trilogy with pumping house rhythms and old school rave stabs. For the other EP, Psychadelik Pedestrian follows up his recent LP, Fifteen, with three new tracks in a slightly different style on his Un-unplugged EP. Replacing the chilled vibes of Fifteen with a harder, electronic sound on this EP. Starting with warm yet relaxing pads and piano, Unprovoked Attack launches unexpectedly into heavy trip-hop beats, distorted guitar-esque synths, and floor-shaking bass, while keeping an uplifting melody in traditional Pedestrian style. Drones is a faster, more minimal outing with relentless tribal rhythms driving deep pitchbending sub-bass interspersed with a haunting piano riff. Naked Flames completes the EP with a more melodic, pop-influenced track, again with echoing distorted electric synths and deep, rumbling bass. All tracks on both EPs are available under a Creative Commons licence, free for re-use in your own DJ sets, videos and podcasts.
Happy new year! Last year we smashed our overall download record for any year with over 1.5 million downloads of all our individual tracks across the web, including downloads on other portals such as the Free Music Archive and Jamendo, so thanks to everyone who listened to or downloaded our music in 2015.
Our annual download chart for last year has been compiled and it is a fourth consecutive year on top for the ever popular Beat Doctor remix of Memories Of Thailand by Risey. There’s also no change at number 2 for Psychadelik Pedestrian’s Night Beach, but some good news for Marc Burt whose popularity in 2015 has meant remixes of Lies, Turbulence and Last Flight Home have gained 3rd, 4th and 6th positions. Redmann‘s Plasma, our top download back in 2011, was our 5th most popular track. You can view the full chart here.

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes selecting and remastering 19 more Toucan tracks from the last decade, and next month the second in our Best Bytes compilation series will be available to download. Featuring tracks from Beat Doctor, Redmann, Risey and more, the compilation will showcase many of the different dance styles produced over the years at Toucan, from trance to chillout, and from EDM to funky house. And if you’re after something new, two brand new mixes of Redmann track Zero Gravity will feature on our next EP release due out at the start of October, including a new mix from Psychadelik Pedestrian and a chillout reworking from Redmann himself.
Our latest release, available to download today, features two new remixes of Beat Doctor tracks. New artist Blastculture remixes Twisted Orchestra, blending the strings and organ stabs with funky house grooves to create a laid-back house track with tribal influences. Aerologic has reworked Alright, blending the vocal samples with contemporary electro-house sounds adding pitchbent leads, large snares, sidechaining and trance riffs.
