Happy new year! We’ve been in a reflective mood here at Toucan as we see in 2018, and have carried out our annual check to see which of our tracks have proved the most popular over the last year. In 2017, Psychadelik Pedestrian’s Drones was our most downloaded track, knocking Risey’s Memories Of Thailand from the top spot after five years as our most popular track between 2012 and 2016. Taking second and third in our chart are two tracks from Phish Funk’s Discotheque EP. There’s also a surprise new entry for Phish Funk in tenth place, with their track Beautiful Geometry entering our chart for the first time, despite being nearly ten years old, thanks to its inclusion on our Best Bytes 4 compilation released last year. You can view the complete chart here…
Our annual end of year mix for 2016 is now available! With the mellow, minimalistic grooves of Blastculture, brooding beats and bass of Psychadelik Pedestrian, disco funk of Phish Funk and progressive trance of Marc Burt, the 86 minute mix showcases some of our favourite Toucan tracks of the year. Our February release is out today, and just in time for Valentine’s we have two soulful disco grooves to get you in the mood! Phish Funk are back with their first original release in five years and have effortlessly blended classic disco and house in this double tracker. As always, both tunes are free to download and are licensed under Creative Commons for you to use in your DJ sets, videos and more. Find out more and pick up those downloads on our release page.
Expertly timed to fit in with two of our autumn album releases, our latest EP features two club remixes of Psychadelik Pedestrian tracks. The original mix of Hypnotise was included on our Best Bytes 3 compilation and Phish Funk have joined forces with Aerologic to bring the track to the dancefloor. Combining the funky house sound of Phish Funk with the upfront progressive EDM vibe of Aerologic and the stuttering electro arpeggios of the original track, our new club mix of Hypnotise features funky bass guitar alongside electronic house grooves. Pulse is taken from the new Psychadelik Pedestrian album Fifteen, and here Notch pumps up the tempo and adds deep house rhythms while keeping faithful to the original electro track, using the punchy melody and synth riffs. Download both tracks on our release page.
Two remixes of Phish Funk tracks feature in our August release out today, with Blastculture and Dave Kent on editing duties. Lava Lamp is tackled by Blastculture, who combines slick house beats with a laid back e-piano groove, pops and glitches to create that late night dancefloor vibe. Dave Kent tweaks The Squelch, adding even more acid grooves. As usual, both remixes are released free of charge under a Creative Commons licence and are available for free download – listen and get those downloads from our release page.
